With the strong desire to lead a liberated lifestyle, this family of 5 took the biggest step to risk it all. Everyone must have thought of living in a faraway land or a secluded place at least once in their life. But it is never easy to fully drop your current way of living. So, the fact that this family actually managed to live in nature is very inspiring.

Living A Fulfiling Life In The Nature Away From The Hustle And Bustle Of The City

Said by the owners, Allan and Irena, back when they were living in a condominium in Petaling Jaya, they realized that they keep on accumulating debts. They were doing well with their job, however, they are still living from paycheck to paycheck. “We eagerly await for payday yet on the same day we are instantly broke and waiting for the next one,”. With so much stress building up on their shoulders, they can feel that their dream of living a simpler lifestyle was slowly slipping off.

“We admit that getting out of the rat race is bold and risky,”. Nevertheless, the idea of living a dull life until retirement terrifies them greatly. Thus, they gritted their teeth and sacrificed everything in exchange for a simple and stress-free lifestyle. “And we dare say that each moment is worth every sacrifice and effort we’ve made,”

Although, they used to think that living in nature might be impossible, “But Alhamdulillah, every day we wake up to the fresh air and lush greenery.” They are inspired by other people who live in small spaces, but can still be happy with what they have. “La Hilir is a symbol of our belief that one of the ways to happiness is through resisting the urge to accumulate unnecessary material possessions and living with what is only needed.”

A Tiny House With Modern Barn House Design

Before building the tiny house, the whole family sat together and pitch in their ideas to the initial design of the house. The couple got their kids involved to find out about their needs and what they would like to have in the tiny house. “This part is crucial because our built-up area is the only 300sqft, we needed to maximize the space without sacrificing privacy and security.”

The concept for the house is a modern barn house design. The family was aware that the design might be a little bit too out of place. Especially considering that they are living in a tropical climate with extreme weather. “But we were still motivated to build it anyway,”. So they look for solutions instead. By using the right materials, appropriate insulation, and efficient ventilation. The final design and 3D modeling were done by Allan himself!

Regular Maintenance Have To Be Done To Ensure Safety

When asked what are the challenges to live in nature, Allan said that although it is not necessarily considered a challenge, they still have to maintain the place regularly to avoid pests and other dangerous animals.

“Every day we clean the surroundings and remove potential safety hazards. We also keep on improving the infrastructure to make the place safer and more enjoyable.” Since their land is located on a slight slope and in multiple tiers, it’s important to have safe access and drainage to avoid flooding and damage to the terrain.

Charming Outdoor Deck And Loft Area

You have to look at their outdoor deck area. Of course, it is an awesome space to hang out, but also doubles as an outdoor theatre! The family also admits that they love their loft area. Particularly since that is where the TV is. “We can never get bored or feel trapped living in it (La Hilir). Can you imagine that even in a 300sqft home you can still be alone and enjoy your own space?”

Experience The Serenity At Their Tiny Resort

Now you might think that they are living in a secluded area filled with dangerous wildlife but they actually have neighbors living around them. “We are actually surrounded by family who also lives in the same land, there’s a community here and we are not alone.” Apart from that, they are also building a tiny resort, DIY style. And their next project is an organic natural swimming pool!
